Good work! I also recently processed 4,000 publicly available dreams to improve Lightened Dream's dream-sign builder, and believe I have found the most common and useful dream sign: doors.

Since then I have been advising my students to stick a note to perform a reality check on one of their doors. And to try and make a habit of pulling or pushing doors in the wrong direction before opening them.

Thanks, Paul, that's a great suggestion. I'll study the Mairesse paper and think about how its method could be applied to the study of dreams.

How difficult would it be to test personality traits vs. dream content?

I'm thinking of a paper by Mairesse et al, Using Linguistic Cues for the Automatic Recognition of Personality in Conversation and Text. (http://www.jair.org/media/2349/live-2349-3562-jair.pdf)

Maybe you could set up an on-line Big-5 personality test and gather that information when dreams are submitted? I think that would be easier than trying to discover the dreamer’s waking life concerns.

you wouldn't need Zeo to do that kind of thing I guess, but their sleep journal does make it easy and it's more or less quantifiable.

And then you can see if pepperoni pizza really increases nightmares!

Right, so it would be possible for example to connect pre-sleep stress with certain kinds of dream content that literally or metaphorically express it.

Interesting! For the Zeo set, I wonder if there could be correlations to find using the Zeo sleep journal ie not specific sleep staging data but the levels of their various "sleep stealers" (stress, alcohol, caffeine, etc).
