Very interesting! Lincoln’s dreams have always intrigued me, particulary the one foretelling his own death. There’s an eeriness to it that’s strangely captivating.

I do wonder about Lincoln at times. I asked the question, “What ‘event’ did Lincoln dream about three days before hi s assiassination?” But I couldn’t find it anywhere and I was really dissapointed. Anyone with the answer to this question I would be happy to know. Thank you.

Yes, I wonder about Lincoln’s relationship with Tad, and his parenting style generally. I wish other political leaders were as open to their dreaming intuitions….

Excellent article and thank you for writing it. Great men dream great dreams.
Tad was a loaded pistol according to accounts. I am sure Lincoln had many troubling dreams about him. I think Lincoln was a overly permissive father.

Thanks for the reference to this book, by Doris Kearns Goodwin in 2006.

I don’t know any dream researcher who has made a thorough study of dreaming in Lincoln’s life, but it would be an excellent topic to pursue. There seems to be a great deal of historical and cultural data to consider.

A novel titled “Lincoln’s Dreams” by Connie Willis in 1987 wove an entertaining and historically detailed fantasy around the dreams and nightmares of the sixteenth US President.

I’m reading Team of Rivals, and the author casts doubt on the “Who is dead in the White House?” dream due to disputed chronology on Lamon’s part (despite being mentioned in Welles’s diary) without giving any specifics. Would like to know where this doubt comes from.
